Welcome to the JCHS PPSA

PPSA
The PPSA’s inaugural award was presented to Jaimie Lee Sugden. Jaimie’s peers say she has been a regular and helpful supporter of Breakfast Club, a member of the soccer team for over four year’s, good attendance, loves school, is a hard worker and quiet achiever. In support of the students’ recommendation, staff also agree that Jaimie Leigh has enthusiastically worked her way through James Cook, getting involved in low profile activities like the canteen. She always attends camps and gives her best in a polite, responsible way. Her schoolwork is of a high standard always towards the top of her classes. She is not afraid to try new things Congratulations Jaimie Lee on being the first recipient of the PPSA Award.

Past Student Article
I attended James Cook High School from 1977 – 1982. Teachers I remember who are still there are Miss Cobb, who I had for Physical Education, Miss Dale (Mrs Mitford-Burgess) was my 3rd Form tutor room teacher, Miss Wilton took me for Science and is this year retiring after 38 years of service to our school.

I managed to get recruited to the canteen and remember being one of the first to use the deep fryer to cook the hot chips, something that you won’t find sold in the canteen now as the school now complies with the healthy schools requirements.

I was an average student and left school at aged 16 before completing 6th Form Certificate to get my first job as a secretary for a customs broker at Auckland Airport, jobs were a dime a dozen back then.

About 5 years ago I found my way back to James Cook High School as a member of the Board as my four children worked their way through to 7th Form. James Cook High School is an outstanding school for the students in our community. There are many heart warming success stories. Certainly my children have all been provided with everything they have needed to be successful at school and have gone on to university of which my eldest has now completed her degree in teaching.

Currently I am Board Chair at James Cook High and couldn’t be more pleased with the direction of the school and the opportunity it provides to our community.

It would be great to read your experience at James Cook and add it to our archives.
